Coronavirus Update: Hyundai Extends Warranties

Owners of Hyundai vehicles carrying a 5-year/50,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and/or the 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty set to expire between March and June will see coverage extended to June 30.

“This is another great example of how we have our customer’s back and continue to reinforce America’s Best Warranty,” said Barry Ratzlaff, chief customer officer, Hyundai Motor America. “While most Hyundai dealers are open to provide service, we want our customers to feel comfortable visiting their dealerships for warranty work and any vehicle service.”

Allows additional leeway for covered services

Hyundai’s move dovetails with vehicle maintenance and repair deemed an essential business by authorities during the coronavirus shutdown. With owners confused over service availability and whether they should leave home, Hyundai extends coverage until the end of June.

This will allow additional time for Hyundai vehicle owners to have service or repair items covered by the warranty addressed. Hyundai also seeks to reassure its customers that its dealerships practice social distancing and cleaning of vehicles during the drop-off and pick-up process.

Electronic signing

Hyundai understands the reluctance of customers to sign repair orders and estimates when visiting the dealership. The company’s policy allows for electronic signatures and digital communication (text messages, email, and social media posts) to approve repairs.

Other measures Hyundai dealers take to reassure customers include the practice of social distancing in their showrooms. Dealers also offer online purchase and home delivery of purchased vehicles at select dealerships. These dealers also allow solo test drives. They also clean common areas in showrooms and dispense with certain in-person contact in making a deal.
