The Chevrolet Equinox crossover will get a sharp-looking all-electric variant for the 2024 model year. Soon to be the least-expensive EV available from GM, the Equinox electric vehicle (EV) will carry a starting price near the $30,000 mark and be available with a handsome two-tone paint scheme.
One of Two Chevy Electric SUVs on the Way
Chevrolet revealed plans for the Equinox EV back in January. That reveal was a surprise. General Motors (GM) executives unveiled a long-awaited all-electric edition of the Chevy Silverado full-size pickup, then announced plans for the Equinox and a midsize Chevy Blazer EV in the same presentation.
That began what will probably be a long tease, with details about the two new SUVs sprinkled out slowly. Earlier this month, Chevy’s social media team put out a brief video with glimpses of the Blazer EV. It revealed that the vehicle will get an SS version — a high-performance Super Sport model — and little else.
Sleek Look, Animated Lights
Today, it’s the Equinox’s turn. A video posted to Twitter shows just a few quick shots of the new EV. Significantly sleeker than the current Equinox, it wears a two-tone, white-over-blue color scheme. A brief startup animation plays through the LED light bar that connects narrow slits of headlights.
The door handles appear completely flush, Tesla-style.
That’s nearly all we can tell from this quick glimpse. But GM CEO Mary Barra told reporters in January that the Equinox would cost “around $30,000.” Both new SUVs will ride on the Ultium platform — a combination of battery, motors, and chassis that can be scaled up or down to design vehicles for many different purposes.
Bolt’s Days May Be Numbered
That would give the Equinox a newer battery system and a lower price than GM’s current budget EV, the Chevy Bolt. The company hasn’t formally admitted that the Bolt will be discontinued by the 2024 model year, but the Equinox EV’s arrival almost certainly means it will.
