Midsize SUV Crossover

Chevrolet Reveals Refreshed 2023 Blazer

It isn’t easy to tell most midsize, 2-row SUVs apart. Their styling can be so predictable that you sometimes have to find the badge to know what you’re looking at. The Chevy Blazer, though, is distinctive. Its muscular, Camaro-inspired styling sets it apart in a parking lot full of lookalikes.

Refining the Look

Chevy has updated its 2-row/5-passenger crossover for 2023, and designers have clearly understood the assignment. The Blazer retains its sharp good looks but gains new tailoring that refines them just a touch. There’s also a new, larger infotainment screen, and wireless charging is now available at all trim levels.

Chevrolet has given us details on the new Blazer, but not pricing. For reference, the 2022 model starts at $33,400, plus a $1,195 shipping charge. We expect to see a slight increase to keep pace with inflation and account for the updates.

The 2022 Blazer is already arguably the best-looking member of its class. For its update, the designers haven’t messed with a working formula. They’ve just intensified it. New LED headlamps are thinner and sharper, and the grille’s pattern is now a handsome wide chain-link in place of the horizontal bars of the 2022 model. The taillamps have been narrowed a bit as well. It still looks best with the optional contrast-color roof.

Inside, the big change is an update to the infotainment screen. The Blazer already carried one of the most user-friendly systems available outside the luxury classes. For 2023, it shows on a larger screen – 10 inches instead of eight. Wireless charging is now available, though optional, on every trim level.

No Hybrid Yet, But EV Version Coming

Mechanically, nothing has changed. The Blazer is still available with a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine putting out 228 horsepower or a V6 making 308. Power goes to the front wheels, or optionally to all four. The sporty RS model gets its own separate dual-clutch all-wheel-drive (AWD) system.

The Blazer retains its tight rear seat, and Chevy still won’t offer a hybrid option in 2023. Rivals like the Hyundai Santa Fe and Jeep Grand Cherokee offer hybrid or plug-in hybrid options.

But Chevy fans who want a more eco-minded SUV don’t have to wait long. Chevrolet has already announced plans for a fully-electric Blazer in the 2024 model year.
