The Chevrolet Camaro will receive a host of updates for the 2020 model year, including a new V8 trim level, LT1. The sixth-generation Camaro, which debuted as a 2016 model, lagged behind the Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger in sales in 2018, so some tweaks were needed.

New LT1 model
The new 2020 Camaro LT1 slots in between the LT and SS models, borrowing content and design from each bracketing model. It will be offered in both coupe and convertible form, with a standard 6-speed manual transmission and an available 10-speed automatic.
The lusty 6.2-liter naturally aspirated (non-turbo) LT1 V8 engine is under the hood, packing 455 hp and 455 lb-ft of torque with direct gasoline injection and variable valve timing. The LT1 will wear 20-inch x 8.5-inch SS-style wheels with all-season tires, a vented hood similar to the SS, and LT1 fender badges and black bowtie emblems.
The Technology Package will be available on LT1, including an 8-inch color touchscreen with the Chevrolet infotainment system and Bose premium audio. Teen Driver remains standard, an important feature in a car like the Camaro.
Prices will start at $34,995 (including destination). “At less than $35,000, it will be one of the most affordable V8 performers on the market,” said Steve Majoros, director of Chevrolet passenger car and crossover marketing.
New nose for SS
The SS model has received a front-end makeover based on the Camaro Shock, a show vehicle that was produced for the 2018 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. “The overwhelmingly positive reaction to the Shock’s stylized design helped prompt its transition from concept to production,” said Majoros.
The new front end features a repositioned Chevy bowtie emblem in the upper grille and a body-color bar between the upper and lower grilles.
Additional updates and changes for the range
Camaro LT models equipped with the V6 engine will now be available with a 10-speed automatic transmission, supplanting the 8-speed automatic in 2019 models. The new 10-speed is based on the optional transmission offered in SS and ZL1 models. A 6-speed manual is still the standard transmission in LT.
Further updates and additions have been filtered throughout the Camaro lineup. A new exterior color, Rally Green, joins the palette, bringing the total number of choices to 12. A rear spoiler, previously available as part of the RS package, is now offered for LS and LT models, which also come with dark-tinted taillamps. The LT, LT1 and SS models can be equipped with 20-inch forged aluminum wheels along with red or orange brake calipers. Red seatbelts, red kneepads, and alloy pedals will be available for all models. Recaro performance seats will be available for LT models while sueded microfiber-trimmed steering wheel and shift knob trim will be available on LT and SS models. Adrenaline Red and Ceramic White leather interiors are optional on the 2LT trim level, along with black bowtie badges and Camaro fender badges. The 2.0-liter turbo 4-cylinder engine along with the Convenience and Lighting Package will be standard on 3LT models.

Camaro’s sixth generation continues
The Chevy Camaro, General Motors’ answer to the Ford Mustang, debuted as a 1967 model. It was produced through four generations into the 2002 model year, then returned for a fifth generation in 2010.
The 2020 Chevrolet Camaro will be produced at General Motors’ Lansing Grand River Assembly facility in Michigan, and goes on sale early in the fall of 2019. Pricing for the new LT1 model will start at $34,995, with prices for other models to be announced closer to launch. Current 2019 prices start at $25,995 for LS, $26,495 for LT, $37,995 for SS, and $62,995 for ZL1 coupes. Convertible models add about $5,500 to those prices.
