Buick has announced that all vehicles in its 2015 lineup will come standard with a rear backup camera. The move puts the automaker comfortably ahead of the federal mandate that all new cars and trucks with less than a 10,000-pound gross vehicle weight have these safety devices fitted by May 2018. According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data, about 210 people currently die each year as the result of being hit by a reversing vehicle and another 15,000 suffer injuries.

In addition to adding backup cameras to their roster of standard equipment, all 2015 Buicks – Verano, Regal and LaCrosse sedans plus the Encore and Enclave SUV/crossover models – also will be available with numerous additional driver-assist technologies including Forward Collision Alert, Side Blind Zone Alert, Lane Departure Warning and Rear Cross Traffic Alert
