BMW has issued a recall for 3,312 X1 SUVs from model year 2025 because they may have a frame strength problem that can make passengers less protected in an accident.
Engineers name the pillars that hold up a car’s roof from front to back. The A-pillars sit beside the windshield, the B-pillars behind the front doors, the C-pillars behind the rear doors, and so on. BMW says a structural plate that reinforces the B-pillar of some X1 models may be weaker than intended.
The company discovered the problem when a technician spotted a cracked B-pillar reinforcement plate on the factory line. The company is unaware of any accidents or injuries related to it.
BMW is still working on a remedy for the issue. When it comes, the company says, “Owners will be notified by First Class mail and instructed to take their vehicle to an authorized BMW dealer to have the remedy performed for free.”
