BMW Recalls 4,400 Over Electrical Problem

BMW has recalled 4,397 vehicles because a loose electrical connection can lead to a loss of power and even trigger a fire.

Recalled models include some, but not all, examples of the:

BMW tells federal safety regulators that “the power connector component of the starter-generator, which may not have been produced by the supplier according to specifications.” A connection between the battery cable and the starter-generator can loosen, which could cause resistive heating in the cable.

“This could result in a loss of charging function, and engine stalling without warning, which could increase the risk of a crash. Also, over time, overheating could increase the risk of smoldering and, in an extreme case, a fire,” The company explains.

A dealer found the problem, and BMW is not aware of any incidents involving customer cars.
