The BMW 4 Series coupe and convertible were due for a facelift for the 2025 model year. BMW just revealed the changes. Though modest, there are enough updates to add up to a thoroughly reworked car.
Both the base 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and the available turbo inline 6-cylinder engine get a new 48-volt mild hybrid system. Four-cylinder models retain the same 255 horsepower output, but BMW says to expect “sharper power deliver and greater efficiency.” Six-cylinder versions get an 11-hp bump, now making 386.
BMW won’t shrink the controversial huge twin-kidney grille. But they will modify it. The base 430i gets a dark chrome grille surround and a mesh grille. Upgraded M440i models get a black grille surround and horizontal slats instead. Every version gets new, thinner headlights and taillights.
“The LED headlights are paired with the visually and technologically impressive design of the Laserlight taillights,” BMW says. They are standard on M440i models and part of the optional Shadowline Package on 430i models. “These units feature laser diodes illuminating glass fiber bundles, producing attractive 3-dimensional light graphics which complement the taillight clusters.”
M440i models get new black-gloss trapezoidal tailpipes.
Inside, a reshaped dash includes more subtle center vents, and all vents get new ambient lighting that now plays welcome and goodbye animations.
A reworked steering wheel includes “illuminated multifunction buttons and gearshift paddles, which enable swift manual control of gear selections and underscore the sharp sporting profile of the new BMW 4 Series models.”
