Audi Recalls e-tron GT, RS e-tron GT for Airbag Failure

Audi has issued a recall for 3,773 e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT high-performance cars from model years 2022-2023 because they may switch off their passenger-side airbags even when they are needed.

Front-seat airbags protect adults in an accident, but can be dangerous for children. So, most of today’s cars have a sensor built into the front passenger seat that only activates the airbag if someone of adult weight sits in it.

Audi says a wiring connection to that sensor was not properly installed in these cars. With a bad connection, they may not activate the airbag at all.

The recall is identical to one issued by Porsche just last week. Porsche and Audi are both Volkswagen brands, and the e-tron GT shares most of its parts with the Porsche Taycan.

“Should a malfunction occur,” Audi says, drivers will see an airbag warning light, a “Passenger Airbag OFF” light, and a warning in the driver’s display.

Dealers will fix the problem by replacing the passenger’s seat cushion.
