The limitations that used to keep people away from electric cars are disappearing. See the Aston Martin Rapide E as an example of what an electric car is capable of. The automaker’s first fully electric car, based on the 4-door Rapide, has the qualities that draw people to Aston Martin: gorgeous lines, low-slung stance, and high performance.

In this case, however, the Rapide E’s performance comes from two electric motors, mounted in the back of the car, that put out 602 horsepower and 700 lb-ft of torque, propelling the Rapide E from 0-60 in less than four seconds. The Rapide E was designed to have the same character and feel as the company’s V12 engines, and uses three driving modes – GT, Sport and Sport + – to optimize powertrain and handling for what the driver wants.

The 4-door also uses an 800-volt battery system, which allows for faster charging times. With a high-speed charger, you’ll be able to fully charge the Rapide E in less than an hour. Range anxiety isn’t much of an issue, either, as the lithium-ion battery pack has a capacity of 65 kWh, for a range of more than 200 miles.

Where will the Rapide E be built?

The Rapide E is the first car the company is building at its new St. Athan facility, and represents Aston Martin’s first step toward a wider use of electrification, and helps pave the way for Lagonda, the company’s zero-emission luxury brand.

The Rapide E, which is ready for production, will be limited to 155 cars. The Aston Martin Rapide E can be ordered now, and pricing is available on application.
