Ford announced all 2017 F-150 pickups fitted with an EcoBoost engine will have Auto Start-Stop technology installed to help improve fuel economy and reduce emissions. That includes the hot, new 2017 Ford Raptor in SuperCab and SuperCrew configurations which will join the F-150 lineup this fall. Currently standard on the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 and available on the 3.5-liter V6, Ford’s Auto Start-Stop has been specifically tuned for truck use. It shuts down the engine when the vehicle is stopped and then smoothly restarts it when the brakes are released — except if the truck is towing a trailer or in 4-wheel-drive mode.

Ford estimates this latest enhancement could impact over 60 percent of the total volume of its – and America’s — best-selling vehicle. While noting that specific mileage gains depends on individual driving style, Doug Scott, Ford truck group marketing manager, anticipates cuts in both fuel use and CO2 emissions.In addition to these current and upcoming applications on the F-150 EcoBoost V6s, Start-Stop technology is currently found on the 1.0-liter/3-cylinder, 1.5-liter 4-cylinder and 2.0-liter/4-cylinder EcoBoost engines found in the Focus, Fusion, Edge and Escape.
