Alfa Romeo 4C Canceled in U.S., Goes Out with Style

Some things are too pure for this world. Tiny, achingly gorgeous, open-top sports cars with precision handling, poor sightlines, and cramped cabins, for instance. They’re a glorious automotive tradition. As is canceling them when they just don’t sell.

Take little Alfa Romeo 4C Spider. No, really, take one. No one else is.

Alfa Romeo has sold just 92 examples of the beautiful little roadster in the U.S. this year. That’s not enough to justify continuing to build it. So the tiny rocket, so dedicated to the principle that a taut chassis is all you need to enjoy driving that it doesn’t even offer power steering, is leaving the American market for the 2021 model year.

Special edition marks end of U.S. run

Alfa will not let it go quietly, though. They plan to send us just 33 copies of a special edition to remember it by. The 4C Spider 33 Stradale Tributo is a tribute to one of the first supercars, the 1967 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale.

The modern version will feature a red transparent finish, suede-and-leather interior with carbon fiber trim, and unique badging throughout, including a center console panel numbered to show you exactly which of the 33 built you are sitting in.

Pricing for the Stradale Turbo starts at $79,995 – a hefty premium over the $68,745 the standard car starts at. With only 33 built, they won’t be easy to find.
