Let’s Take a Look Inside the 2024 Hyundai Sonata

The 2024 Hyundai Sonata received a massive revision inside and out. The exterior redo exudes a sleek, modern feel that suggests it’s a premium vehicle. Hyundai’s consistent tweaking of the Sonata helped make it one of America’s five best-selling midsize sedans.

This year’s changes include a completely updated front end featuring what the automaker calls a “Seamless Horizon Lamp.” Although decorative, it gives the sedan a futuristic feel. You can also choose from a few powertrains, starting with the base 2.5-liter 4-cylinder, putting out 191 horsepower.

For a little more “go,” upgrade to the 2.5-liter turbo, which develops 290 hp. If fuel economy is your focus, move to the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder hybrid, which develops 192 hp.

It looks balanced and feels more expensive than its sticker price, ranging from $28,650 to $38,350. So, if you want an upscale feel at a mainstream price, focus on the new Sonata.

Let’s look at what the fully loaded Hyundai Sonata offers.

Passenger Room and Comfort

The Hyundai Sonata is a 5-passenger midsize sedan that comfortably carries five people — honest! When compared to other midsize 4-door models, the Hyundai comes out favorably for the front seat passengers. It offers more space than the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, and Nissan Altima in the front seats.

The front seats are comfortable and heated across the lineup. An 8-way power driver seat is standard across the board, while the front seat passenger gets a 6-way power seat with the SEL and N Line. However, the SEL Hybrid and Limited variants get 4-way power seats.

However, when checking out the rear seats, the Sonata doesn’t fare as well. It’s a bit tighter than all but the Altima. But again, you can put three adults in the back seat, and they’ll be fine. If you only need to cart two people, they share a center armrest with dual cupholders.

Features and Tech

Hyundai focuses most of the controls and information on the driver. All versions of the Hyundai Sonata feature a 12.3-inch gauge cluster for the driver and a 12.3-inch touchscreen to handle infotainment functions under a panoramic display. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard on every trim.

The new Sonata also enjoys the ability to handle Over-the-Air updates, ranging from simple upgrades to resolving recalls without the hassle of leaving your vehicle with a dealer for a day or two.

Hyundai’s Bluelink+ allows you to remotely start the Hyundai Sonata, lock and unlock the doors, and activate the climate control from your smartphone with no monthly fee. With Hyundai Pay, drivers can conveniently pay for parking using credit card info stored in the system. Its capabilities will be expanded soon.

Moving up to N Line and Limited trim levels gives you Hyundai’s Digital Key 2 Touch and wireless charging. The Digital Key 2 Touch allows driving without the vehicle key, and the driver can assign a temporary key to others with smartphones so they can drive.

The N Line and Limited Hybrid boast a 12-speaker Bose premium sound system, which is absent from the other two trims. The Sonata features a massive panoramic sunroof as standard equipment in the N Line and Limited, which can be added to the SEL via the Convenience Package but not the SEL Hybrid.

Materials and Design

The cabin design mirrors much of the aesthetic outside, starting with the “floating theme” designers created to mimic the feel of the Seamless Horizon lamp on the front fascia. The floating theme aims to create a futuristic look that’s enhanced through the use of ambient lighting in the Hyundai Sonata.

The Sonata interior is trimmed in a choice of black, dark gray, and dark gray and camel two-tone. Lower trim levels feature cloth fabric, but leather is available for the higher Limited trim, including a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The exception, of course, is the sporty N Line, which uses dark gray with red stitching for the suede seats. Regardless, the Sonata boasts a modern, upscale feel with either cloth or leather.

Cargo Room and Flexibility

The amount of cargo room is typical for this segment. It has the usual storage in the front door cards and the center console. The Hyundai Sonata enjoys a nice, big trunk opening, making loading and unloading easy. With 15.6 cubic feet of space, it’s slightly smaller than the Accord but larger than the Camry and Altima.

The rear seats are split 60/40 and fold down to allow for additional cargo space — at the expense of the rear seat passengers, of course.
