The Toyota GR86 started life as the Scion FR-S back in 2012, then took on the Toyota name when the company folded its inexpensive Scion brand after 2016. It has done a great job carrying on that car’s cheap-sports-car theme.
Time behind the wheel of a small, pretty sports car that isn’t overpowered or overpriced is therapeutic. The GR86 has flaws (especially for those over 6 feet tall). However, with few inexpensive compact sports cars left on the road, people who love the car easily overlook its few downsides.
The GR86 lacks one thing the FR-S had, though, that longtime loyalists truly miss – that glorious Yuzu Yellow paint job.
For 2026, the color is coming back. Toyota says the 2026 GR86 Yuzu Edition is a “nod to a memorable special edition of GR86’s predecessor, the Scion FR-S Release Series 1.0.”
On the inside, it features black Ultrasuede-trimmed sport seats with yellow perforations and yellow contrast-color stitching. On the outside, it features that glorious citrus shade accented by a black grille, black mirror caps, and black trim.
Mechanical upgrades include SACHS dampers and Brembo performance brakes. “Customers can customize their vehicle by adding additional accessories like a cat-back exhaust with GR logoed silver-colored tips and a body kit to the Yuzu edition for even more self-expression,” Toyota says.
Every GR86 features the same 2.4-liter 4-cylinder boxer engine, which sends 228 horsepower to the rear wheels. Buyers can choose a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission.
