Volkswagen has refreshed its Taos subcompact SUV for the 2025 model year, giving it more power, an updated look, and some new interior technology. An update usually means an across-the-board price increase. Not this time.
Some Taos trim levels actually see their price drop with the improvements.
Solves Its Power Problem
Our reviewers have long liked the roomy cabin (for a subcompact) of the Taos and praised its automatic transmission, which stands out in a class known for more rubbery continuously variable transmissions.
However, the car is underpowered compared to rivals like the Kia Seltos and Mazda CX-30 that offered more potent engine choices.
For 2025, Volkswagen has solved that problem. A new 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine makes 174 horsepower, putting it near the top of its class.
The 2025 Taos also gets a new look with an EV-like face dominated by a wide light bar. An interior makeover includes an available ChatGPT-enable virtual assistant.

Prices rise for some trim levels but drop for others. All prices include a mandatory $1,425 destination fee. Most trim levels are available in front-wheel drive (FWD) form or with VW’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive (AWD) system.
