The 2024 Nissan Altima offers midsize car shoppers a roomy cabin and the option of all-wheel drive (AWD) at a reasonable price. But we’ve been disappointed at times by the so-so acceleration of its standard 188-horsepower 4-cylinder engine. Thankfully, Nissan has long offered an optional upgrade to a 248-horsepower turbocharged 4-cylinder in its place.
No more. That engine will disappear from the Altima lineup with the changeover to the 2025 model year.
Thankfully, that’s not the only change to the Altima lineup for 2025. Nissan will give buyers a new option, the SV trim level with a Special Edition package. It gives shoppers a well-equipped mid-level option without stepping up to the most expensive trim levels. The package adds goodies like a larger 12.3-inch color display, wireless phone charging pad, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a moonroof. It also gets a rear spoiler and 17-inch gloss black alloy wheels.
A persistent industry rumor says the Altima is on its last legs – Nissan may cancel it altogether after the 2026 model year.
