Kia’s well-liked Seltos subcompact SUV saw a significant makeover for the 2024 model year. It does not need much updating for 2025, but its competition is improving. So, Kia is keeping its price close to unchanged for 2025 and promises “an updated interior, featuring improved materials and finishes that elevate the driving experience.”
Prices stay similar to 2024’s sticker, with the entry-level LX increasing by just $100. The 2025 Seltos will start at $25,965, including a mandatory $1,375 shipping fee.
Better Competition This Year
The inexpensive car market is finally heating up. Automakers, frankly, spent several years neglecting their least expensive models. With interest rates high, carmakers understood that higher-income, better-credit shoppers were likelier to walk into a new car dealership than anyone else. They tailored their lineups to account for it, introducing more luxury and near-luxury cars and trimming inexpensive models from their stables.
The trend became a problem last year. Dealers started telling automakers they needed more appealing affordable cars on lots. Automakers started listening. Chevrolet released a new Chevy Trax that people wanted to buy. Buick answered with a similarly priced, similarly appealing Envista.
Hyundai updated its Kona subcompact SUV, and we liked the result so much that we named it the Best Buy in its class.
The Seltos remains a compelling choice, but Kia needed to respond to the new competition. So, for 2025, the Seltos gains new standard features like parking distance warning sensors in reverse (for upper trims), a new available power sunroof package, and an auto up/down driver’s window on even the lower-level S trim.
We’ll need to feel the new interior materials to understand whether the upgrades are compelling enough to keep the Seltos near the top of an improving class. With prices staying nearly the same as in 2024, this one should be on many shoppers’ test-drive lists.
