The BMW 2 Series is more important than its sales numbers would indicate. The 3, 4, and 5 Series each outsell it by wide margins. However, the 2 Series is the point of entry for the brand – the least expensive option and the one that, if BMW gets it right, makes drivers fall in love and buy future BMWs.
The current 2 was redesigned for the 2022 model year and has filled its role well. Our expert test driver calls it “BMW thrills and quality in a small package,” with engines that seem more potent than their stat sheets indicate and torque vectoring to keep it stable in hard corners.
But it’s time for an update, what automakers call a “mid-cycle refresh” – a light design facelift that isn’t an all-new vehicle.
BMW saw no need for mechanical changes this time.
Mostly A Technology Update
Exterior changes are minimal, with a smattering of new M badges for the M240i model and new available wheel designs. The M Sport Package is now standard, giving every 2025 2 Series a rear spoiler in high-gloss black. The grille surround is now chrome, and the side skirts are now body color.
More substantial changes come inside.
The iDrive interface now runs on BMW Operating System 8.5, which “means that the automatic air condition functions and, if fitted, the seat and steering wheel heating can be operated by touch on the Control Display or by voice command.” New control knobs on the air vents give passengers more control over the direction of airflow.
Ambient lighting now extends to the air vent surrounds. Drivers can adjust color and intensity, and the lights now play welcome and goodbye animations.
A new 3-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel includes a red 12 o’clock marking. Optional Sensatec faux leather upholstery is now available in Tacora Red. The intelligent personal assistant now accepts commands in Swedish, Polish, and Dutch (though English still works, too).
