2024 Toyota Crown Adds Available Driver Assists

The Toyota Crown was one of the most interesting new cars of 2023. It replaced the Avalon in Toyota’s lineup, giving buyers a sedan option larger than the Camry. But it brought some of the attributes of an SUV to the sedan class, thanks to standard all-wheel drive (AWD) and a tall ride height that lets its driver see over traffic more than the drivers of most sedans.

Our expert test driver liked its “pleasant, well-rounded driving spirit” and excellent visibility, even if he doubted it would make a dent in the SUV craze.

The Crown is still a new enough sight on American roads that Toyota hasn’t seen the need for significant updates in 2024.

The Japanese automaker says the new model year will bring “updates to soft-touch materials” without specifying what that means. The XLE, Limited, and Platinum trims also get “additional warm steel-colored accents.”

The biggest news may be the added driver assists. They apply only to the Platinum grade. It gets Traffic Jam Assist – a system that will accelerate, brake, and steer the car independently (provided the driver’s hands are on the wheel) at speeds under 25 mph, letting the driver rest in heavy traffic. Lane Change Assist and Front Cross Traffic Alert also appear on the Platinum.

The same features are available to Limited buyers in the Advanced Technology Package.
