Porsche recently updated its Panamera sport sedan and, in the process, shrunk the lineup from more than a dozen trim levels to three. You knew that wasn’t going to last.
This is Porsche. The iconic 911 comes in 25 trims. Cayenne buyers can choose from 27 wheel designs. The omelet station in the headquarters cafeteria has a selection of 102 cheeses and meats, including ostrich and alligator. Taycan buyers have more than a dozen colors to choose from and, if you don’t see what you want, you can bring them a swatch of material and they’ll match the color. We only made one of those things up.
Now Four Powertrain Choices
So, fans of infinite choice, Porsche has introduced more drivetrain options for the 2025 Panamera. Less than three months after debuting the car.
The options everyone already knew about included a turbocharged 2.9-liter 6-cylinder engine good for 348 horsepower and a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 paired with an electric motor in a hybrid setup, putting down a combined 670.
New to the lineup are a pair of hybrids.
The 2025 Panamera 4 E-Hybrid starts at $117,495 (including the mandatory $1,995 destination charge). The 4S E-Hybrid comes in at $128,795 delivered.
The Panamera 4 E-Hybrid uses a slightly de-tuned version of the turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 from the base car, good for 300 horsepower. But it pairs it with an electric motor “efficiently placed in the housing of the PDK transmission” for a total output of 463 horsepower. Porsche claims a 0-60 mph time of 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 174 mph.
The Pamera 4S E-Hybrid uses the full 348-horsepower V6 and gets more power out of the electric motor as well, for a total of 536 horsepower. Sixty comes in just 3.5 seconds and speed levels out at 180 mph.
Driving Modes To Maximize Mileage, Fun
The hybrids get six driving modes, four exclusive to the gas/electric powertrain.
“The vehicles start off in the fully electric E-Power mode,” Porsche explains. “Once the state of charge of the battery is under a certain minimum value, the system automatically switches over into the Hybrid Auto mode,” which manages power for maximum efficiency. It will even take into account navigation destinations, planning to use more battery on city streets and more engine on the highway.
“In E-Hold mode, the current state of charge of the battery is preserved, while in E-Charge mode, the battery is charged up to a maximum of 80 percent by the combustion engine at speeds above 34 mph while still retaining the efficiency of the hybrid powertrain in city driving.”
Sport and Sport Plus do what you buy a Porsche to do.
Trick Suspension Optional
Both models get a two-chamber active suspension as standard equipment. But both have the option of the new Porsche Active Ride suspension that, so far, is exclusive to the Panamera. It uses active shock absorbers combined with an electrically operated hydraulic pump to actively lean against rolling pressure in turns, like a surfer keeping their balance.
This almost certainly does not complete the 2025 Panamera lineup. Porsche being Porsche, they will likely roll out an equivalent to every trim level they dropped with the new model. We expect to see 4S, GTS, Turbo S, and Turbo S E-Hybrid before long.
