Ford has finally caught up to the backlog of F-150 Lightning orders and started producing special editions of the truck. The first limited-run Lightning will tap into two trends dominating car design in recent years – blacked-out trim and matte paint jobs.
The 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning Platinum Black edition doesn’t actually get a new paint job. It’s a wrap. Ford explains that it’s “wrapped in a unique matte black wrap – the company’s first-ever matte-wrapped production truck.” Wraps require special care, particularly in washing.
The traditional Ford blue oval is a black oval with Agate Black Gloss trim. Power running boards and matte black painted wheels complete the look of the all-electric truck. The roof is glossy as well. The signature light bar that connects the daytime running lights of the Lightning is smoked on the limited edition truck. A soft-shell black tonneau cover is standard.
Inside, the seats are upholstered in premium Nirvana leather in a festive pink…kidding. It’s black.
Aluminum plates in the frunk and on the door sill specify the truck’s production number. Ford plans to sell just 2,000 examples. They’ll start at $97,995, plus a destination fee. Ford hasn’t specified what the destination fee will be for 2024. On 2023 models, it’s $1,995.
Since it’s based on the Platinum trim of the Lightning, the black truck gets the extended-range battery pack good for 580 horsepower and about 300 miles of range between charges.
It comes with the Pro Power Onboard system as standard equipment, giving you 9.6 kW to power tools and accessories in the field. For 2024, the system will now work even with the truck switched off and “features an updated visual appearance so customers can better understand the truck’s power levels,” Ford says.
