2023 Kia Niro EV Starts at $39,450

2023 Kia Niro EVThe 2023 Kia Niro EV will start at $39,450, plus a $1,295 destination fee.

Normally, when an automaker releases pricing for a new model year, we only have to tell you the pricing once. But the Niro is more a fleet of vehicles than a single car. It’s available as a hybrid, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and an all-electric vehicle (EV).

So, this is the third time Kia has released 2023 Niro pricing details. Last month, they revealed the hybrid edition (starting at $26,490). Two weeks later, they announced the Niro PHEV (starting at $33,740).

This week’s announcement covers the 2023 Niro EV.

Like the other Niros, it wears a striking new look thanks to “aero blades” — raised side vents behind the D-pillars that provide a slight aerodynamic enhancement to increase range and decrease wind noise. They’re available painted in a contrasting color, which helps the car look less like the modest crossover it otherwise is.

The Niro has a range of up to 253 miles between charges and a handsome interior available with some interesting color combinations in the upscale Wave trim.

But we can’t help but notice that the EV version’s pricing puts it in an odd position on the Kia sales lot. 2023 pricing hasn’t been announced for the far more attractive Kia EV6 EV. But its 2022 edition starts at $41,400 — not much more than the Niro.

The Niro PHEV, meanwhile, gives buyers up to 33 miles of all-electric range — more than most of us need on our daily commute and errands — for thousands less. That version also gives buyers the freedom to make longer trips with gasoline.

Kia builds the Niro EV in South Korea, so it will not be eligible for the $7,500 federal EV tax credit offered on vehicles built in North America. The Kia Niro EV is available in all 50 states.
