The cost of most trim levels of the GMC Sierra full-size pickup, and the cost of delivering the truck, have gone up for the 2023 model year. A basic Sierra work truck will not quite cross the $40,000 line for 2023, but it’s starting to test that line.
The 2023 Sierra 1500 starts at $37,200, plus $1,895 to deliver. Prices push to over $82,000 for a luxury Sierra Denali Ultimate with a 6.2-liter V8 engine making 420 horsepower with perforated leather seats and a huge 13.4-inch landscape-mounted touchscreen.
The Sierra 1500 wasn’t fully redesigned last year, but GMC updated it so thoroughly that you could easily believe it was an all-new truck.
Designers drastically improved the cabin with more soft-touch materials, an improved engine lineup including a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine just as powerful as the old V6, and two new trims — a super-luxury Denali Ultimate and an off-road-focused AT4X.
An updated version of GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving software, standard on the Denali Ultimate and available on the Denali, can change lanes on its own and account for the added drag of towing.
GMC saw little need to make more changes for 2023.
A new AT4X AEV takes the off-roader idea even further, with ideas from the overlanding experts at American Expedition Vehicles. It gets 33-inch mud tires, redesigned stamped steel bumpers for improved approach and departure angles, and gloss black and dark nickel trim.
It’s also the only model we don’t have any pricing for.

The Future: New Heavy-Duty, Electric Sierra
An all-new Sierra HD will appear for the 2024 model year. It gets its own ultra-luxury and off-road trims.
But that’s not the big news for 2024. Next year will also see the introduction of an all-electric Sierra, with up to 400 miles of range.
