The Toyota GR Supra hasn’t faced much competition in recent years. Pure sports cars at non-luxury prices have grown rare. But with a new Nissan Z on the way soon, Toyota’s low-slung, rear-wheel-drive coupe has territory to defend. For 2022, Toyota will give it a modest price bump and an exclusive new carbon fiber edition to help it control its turf.
The 2022 GR Supra starts at $43,290, plus $1,025 shipping and handling. That’s just $200 more than the entry price of the 2021 model.
There appear to be no changes to the base model GR Supra 2.0 for the new model year. It retains its turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with 255 horsepower and 8-speed automatic transmission.
A step up to the 3.0, with its 382-horsepower six-cylinder turbo, does bring a few changes. Heated seats are now standard on the 3.0. A new red leather color choice will also appear.
The premium audio option now gets you full-screen Apple CarPlay compatibility.
The other news is a new special edition, made of carbon fiber wrapped in carbon fiber with a side of carbon fiber. Just 600 examples of the GR Supra A91-CF Edition will be sold. They feature a carbon fiber front splitter, large new carbon fiber canards, carbon fiber side rockers, a carbon fiber duckbill spoiler, and carbon fiber lower rear canards. All that carbon makes the CF model lighter than other Supras and cuts 0-60 time to 3.9 seconds.
Inside, it features a red-and-black theme, with Alcantara seating surfaces and trim made of…you guessed it…carbon fiber.
But its most unique feature is the driving lesson. Every GR Supra comes with a 1-year membership to NASA. No, not space NASA. The National Auto Sport Association. Buyers get a free track lesson through NASA’s High-Performance Driving Event program.
