2022 Porsche Taycan Updates Include Remote Parking via Smartphone

2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo SThe Porsche Taycan heads into its third year as the most obvious rival to the Tesla Model S. Its precise handling, 2.4-second 0-to-60 mph time (in Turbo S guise) make it hard to believe it comfortably seats four adults. An available Cross Turismo model adds more cargo space and SUV ride height without losing its sports car balance.

About the only complaint our testers could find with the 2021 edition is that it lacked Android Auto integration.

Scratch that problem. For 2022, Porsche has added Android Auto integration. Annoyingly, it isn’t wireless.

Porsche hasn’t revealed pricing for the 2022 Taycan. We expect to see just a nominal increase over 2021’s price schedule, which starts at $82,700, climbing to $187,600 for the top-of-the-range Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo. All Taycans require an additional $1,350 delivery fee.

Remote Parking

Android integration isn’t the biggest news with the 2022 Taycan. That honor goes to a new remote parking system. Porsche explains, “With the new Remote Park Assist option, it is possible to remotely control parking maneuvers via a smartphone when driving into and out of parking spaces without the driver needing to be behind the wheel. Automatic control is possible for both parallel and perpendicular parking spaces and garages.”

You can’t quite hit the park button and walk away. The system requires the driver to hold down a button in the Porsche Connect app on their phone until parking is complete. But it does let you get out of the car and watch it park itself.

Conversational Voice Commands, Funky Paint Colors

Other upgrades include natural language voice commands for the entertainment and information system, and a new temperature management system for the battery that should slightly speed up charging.

Lastly, Porsche has brought back a series of “cult colors” popular in the 1990s. They include Moonlight Blue Metallic, Acid Green, Rubystar, Riviera Blue, and Viola Metallic. If you’re dreaming of a Porsche in a color that didn’t make the list of 17 available hues, you can send a paint sample to Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur, the automaker’s custom shop, and they will match it. For a fee. Which they don’t reveal.
