2022 Little Tikes Cozy Coupe Gets Updated Look, Special Editions

Little Tikes has released the sixth generation of its Cozy Coupe, offering dramatically updated sheet plastic, but no changes to the antiquated drivetrain.

The most obvious change comes in the front, where the automaker has toned down the controversial giant googly eyes of the prior model, integrating them into the headlights. They should at least not limit visibility now, below the (complete lack of a) windscreen where a car’s eyes belong. The A-pillars are a bit thicker than before, and the C-pillars include a curious notch that makes the roof look removable, though it isn’t. Perhaps a hardtop convertible model is planned later in the model year.

The overall look is boxier, calling back to the original 1979 model designed by former Chrysler designer Jim Mariol, and borrowing from the much pricier Little Tikes Cozy Truck. A new rear spoiler lends a sportier air and a bit of downforce at high speeds. Much larger 6-inch wheels replace the prior 2.5-inch models. But stunningly thin, low-rolling-resistance tires have us questioning whether the handling will really change much. We’ll let you know when we get some seat time.

Inside, less has changed. Upholstery remains a single hard plastic seat. The dash features a big red horn button for infotainment and a key slot that is completely unnecessary to start the car.

Power comes from your feet.

Once again, Little Tikes offers the Cozy Coupe only in a single shade of red mica pearl. But several special editions are available, for those who need their Coupe to stand out. They include a Racing edition with red plastic wheels and flame stickers on the door, a police model, and the Superstar Cozy Coupe, which comes in pink and adds eyelashes.

The 2022 Cozy Coupe is already on some dealership lots at an MSRP of $56.99, though there may already be a manufacturer incentive program in effect, as some Target dealerships appear to be offering the new model for just $49.49.

The Cozy Coupe remains one of the most affordable cars in America, nearly $14,000 cheaper than even the $14,000 Mitsubishi Mirage, though the Mirage does come with a powertrain warranty not available on toddler shoes.

Credit goes to Jalopnik’s Jason Torchinsky for alerting the rest of the automotive press to the Cozy Coupe update, which somehow slipped our inboxes.
