The V8-powered 2022 Lexus IS 500 F Sport Performance model is already an exclusive version of the sport sedan, but that isn’t stopping Lexus from bringing out an even more rarified edition. The IS 500 F Sport Performance Launch Edition will go to just 500 buyers.
Price details are not yet known, though we expect a number a little north of $50,000. A less-powerful, V6-equipped IS 350 F Sport starts at $42,900, plus a $1,045 destination charge. The IS 500 F Sport Performance will reach Lexus showrooms this fall.
Mechanically, the Launch Edition is no different than the F Sport Performance model, but that’s not a bad thing. Each comes with a 472-horsepower, naturally-aspirated V8 – something that is growing rare as luxury manufacturers increasingly rely on boosted 4-cylinder engines in even their high-performance models. The Launch Edition will come standard in rear-wheel-drive, use an 8-speed automatic transmission, and boast a limited-slip differential.
The Launch Edition comes only in “Incognito Grey,” a color not available on any other IS model. It will ride on 19-inch BBS wheels finished in a gunmetal shade.
Inside, a plaque on the center console will mark each as one of just 500. A heated silver ash wood steering wheel is standard. Black and gray Ultrasuede takes the place of leather on seating surfaces, door accents, and the center console. The driver’s instrument cluster will play a special Launch Edition animation on startup.
The IS 500 F Sport Performance Launch Edition is exclusive to North America.
