The 2022 Jeep Compass competes in a crowded field of compact SUVs and against rivals like the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Ford Escape, and Nissan Rogue. To keep it competitive, the 2022 Compass gets a major redo inside, with more comfort and tech touches, not to mention a vastly updated dashboard and available 10.1-inch infotainment screen.
The Compass Trailhawk is one of four main trim levels, and it’s geared toward SUV shoppers who want to venture off-road. Eagle-eyed Jeep fans will spot the red tow hooks at the front and rear, a 1-inch lift in ride height, and new red and black hood decal. The Compass also gets a subtle exterior refresh, including a reworking of Jeep’s trademark 7-slat front grille.
Jeep has equipped all versions of the 2022 Compass with a number of active safety features, including automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, and an available surround-view parking camera.
Compass Trailhawk Price and Details
The 2022 Jeep Compass Trailhawk comes standard with all-wheel drive (AWD) and is one of the top two trim levels. Starting at $31,395, excluding the $1,495 destination fee, the Trailhawk is the exact same price as the more luxury-oriented Limited trim.
At the lower end of the range, the base Compass Sport starts at $24,995, while the Latitude has an entry price of $26,525. Adding AWD to the Sport or Latitude trims costs an additional $1,500.
A 2.4-liter 4-cylinder delivers 177 horsepower and 172 lb-ft of torque. Unlike a number of direct rivals, Jeep only offers one choice of engine in the Compass. In terms of fuel economy, the Trailhawk, with its standard AWD, returns 22 mpg in city driving and 30 mpg on the highway.
Setting the Trailhawk apart from other Compass trims is its off-road-oriented hardware such as underbody skid plates, front and rear tow hooks, a more rugged AWD system, and Jeep Selec-Terrain with two extra settings — Rock Mode and Hill Descent.
Dimensions
The Jeep Compass Trailhawk has two rows of seating and room for five. The length of the 2022 Compass is 173 inches, which is the same as the 2021 model year.
Legroom in the first and second row measures in at 41.8 and 38.3 inches respectively. In terms of cargo capacity, the Compass offers 27.2 cubic feet with the rear seats upright and 59.8 cubic feet with them folded.
Engine
All 2022 Compass models come with a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine that delivers 177 horsepower and 172 lb-ft of torque. The Trailhawk AWD pairs this engine with a 9-speed automatic transmission.
Tires
The 2022 Compass Trailhawk rides on 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped around on/off-road tires. To help it clamber over rough terrain, the Trailhawk gets a 1-inch lift in ride height and has unique front and rear bumpers to allow for greater approach and departure angles. This helps minimize the chance of bashing a bumper during rough off-road driving.
Compass Trailhawk Standard and Optional Features
The 2022 Compass Trailhawk sits at the top of the range, alongside the Limited trim. Standard features on every Compass include an 8.4-inch Uconnect 5 infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, USB-A and USB-C ports in the front, push-button start, and LED headlights.
When choosing the Trailhawk trim, however, a Compass buyer gets a wide range of off-road accessories, including all-wheel drive with Jeep Active Low range, hill descent control, 20:1 crawl ratio, underbody skid plates, beefed-up suspension, higher ride height, and more.
The Trailhawk also includes a number of items that aren’t geared toward adventure driving. Inside there’s a 10.1-inch UConnect infotainment system, upgraded cloth and leather seating, dual-zone climate control, rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, and an auto-dimming mirror.
