The 2022 Jeep Compass is a compact 5-passenger SUV that sits between the smaller Jeep Renegade and the larger Cherokee. For the 2022 model year, the Compass gets a major interior overhaul that includes a completely redone dashboard, newly optional 10.1-inch infotainment screen, and higher quality materials throughout the cabin.
The 2022 Compass is also equipped with a wider roster of standard safety features. They include blind-spot monitoring, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and backup camera with rear cross-traffic alert.
The powertrain is mostly carryover from the previous Compass. Under the hood is a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder and 6-speed automatic transmission in front-wheel-drive (FWD) models. A 9-speed automatic transmission is fitted in all-wheel-drive (AWD) versions of the Compass.
The 2022 Compass also gets a mild exterior redesign that makes it look like a scaled-down version of the recently updated Grand Cherokee. Rivals to the 2022 Compass include the Subaru Crosstrek, Honda CR-V, Kia Sportage, and Nissan Rogue.
Compass Latitude Price and Details
The 2022 Jeep Compass Latitude is the second-highest of four available trims. These include the entry-level Sport, Latitude (and Latitude Lux), Trailhawk, and Limited. The base Compass Sport starts at $24,995, excluding a $1,495 destination fee.
Stepping up to the Latitude in FWD format isn’t much of a budget stretch, thanks to its starting price of $26,525. Adding AWD to the Sport or Latitude trims will cost an additional $1,500.
Every version of the 2022 Compass comes with the same engine, a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder that delivers 177 horsepower and 172 lb-ft of torque. In the FWD Compass, this engine returns 22 mpg in city driving and 31 mpg on the highway. Adding AWD only nudges the highway mileage down by 1 mpg.
In addition to the comfort and safety features fitted to the Sport trim, the Latitude adds larger alloy wheels, ambient interior lighting, leather-wrapped shift knob, upgraded seats, and automatic headlights. The Latitude also permits Jeep shoppers to add more safety items like a surround-view camera, plus comfort touches such as heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, power liftgate, and wireless phone charging.
Dimensions
The Jeep Compass Latitude has two rows of seating and room for five. The overall length of the 2022 Compass is 173 inches, which is exactly the same as the 2021 model year.
Legroom in the first and second row measures in at 41.8 and 38.3 inches, respectively. When it comes to cargo capacity, the latest Compass offers 27.2 cubic feet with the rear seats upright, and 59.8 cubic feet with them folded down.
Engine
All versions of the 2022 Compass are motivated by a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine that delivers 177 horsepower and 172 lb-ft of torque. A 6-speed automatic transmission is fitted to the Compass FWD, while AWD models receive a 9-speed automatic.
Tires
The 2022 Compass Latitude comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels fitted with all-season tires. Upgrading to the Latitude LUX brings 18-inch alloys, while the available Altitude Package adds 18-inch gloss black alloys.
Compass Latitude Standard and Optional Features
The 2022 Compass Latitude and Latitude LUX are positioned right in the middle of the available trims. Standard features on every Compass include items such as an 8.4-inch Uconnect 5 infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, USB-A and USB-C ports in the front, push-button start, and LED headlights. Opt for the LUX and you get a 10.1-inch center touchscreen.
Like the entry-level Sport trim, adding AWD costs an additional $1,500 and comes with a 9-speed automatic transmission. This gearbox has proven to be balky in the past, though Jeep says improvements have made it more refined and better behaved than before.
The Latitude trim adds features such as automatic headlights and front fog lamps, passive entry and Keyless Go, satellite radio, gloss black heated side mirrors, and upgraded cloth/vinyl seats in the first and second row.
The Compass Latitude can also be equipped with several option packages. For example, the Driver Convenience Group adds rain-sensing wipers, LED fog lamps, and wireless smartphone charging. The aptly named Sun and Sound Group comes with a dual-pane panoramic sunroof and Alpine audio system.
The Latitude LUX comes with these same features, but includes AWD as standard. Cabin improvements in the Latitude LUX are also notable. The larger 10.1-inch infotainment screen is standard, as is leather seating, heated front seats, remote start, and 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat.
