Let’s Take a Look Inside the 2022 Honda Pilot

  • New Pilot Sport and Pilot TrailSport variants introduced for 2022
  • Entry-level Pilot Sport includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Off-road-oriented Pilot TrailSport a new sub-brand for Honda trucks and SUVs

The Honda Pilot is a spacious, safe, and reliable midsize 3-row SUV with a well-equipped cabin, seating for up to eight, and, for the 2022 model year, two new variants. The new Pilot Sport model is the feature-packed entry point to the Pilot range, while the Pilot TrailSport is aimed at beefing up the Pilot’s off-road capabilities. The TrailSport trim level will eventually become a sub-brand of the Honda truck and SUV ranges, but for now it’s a byword for the most rugged version of the Pilot.

Passenger Room and Comfort

2022 Honda Pilot Elite

The Honda Pilot’s interior is spacious, well thought-out, and comfortable. The Sport and EX-L trims offer seating for eight by default, while the Touring trim can be had with seating for seven or eight, and the Elite and Black Edition models seat seven.

The interior offers a total of 15 cup holders, 38.4 inches of second-row legroom, and 31.9 inches of third-row legroom. In addition to all the space, the Pilot’s cabin is quiet, helping make it a nice companion on long road trips.

The new TrailSport off-road-oriented trim gets a range of off-road upgrades like standard all-wheel drive (AWD) and rugged tires, plus orange-stitched leather upholstery, a one-touch power moonroof and more.

Features and Tech

One of the most useful tech features of the 2022 Honda Pilot is CabinTalk, which allows the driver’s voice to be heard over the rear cabin speakers or the headphones that come with the optional rear-seat entertainment system.

The new Sport entry-level model comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard equipment, along with tri-zone climate control, an 8-inch center display, and the Honda Sensing driver assistance suite.

The new TrailSport gets navigation as standard equipment along with its functional and appearance upgrades.

The Pilot Touring trim is where the tech game steps up, with a 590-watt 10-speaker audio system, navigation, rear entertainment system with Blu-ray and a 10.2-inch screen, and Wi-Fi.

The Elite trim offers everything in lower tiers plus a panoramic roof, rain-sensing wipers, heated steering wheel, perforated leather seating surfaces, heated/ventilated front seats, and blue ambient interior lighting.

Materials and Design

The 2022 Pilot’s materials and design are among the best in the class, even in base form, with higher-trim models offering leather seating, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and even perforated leather seating surfaces on the top-tier Elite trim.

The new TrailSport trim includes orange-stitched leather upholstery among its arsenal of offroad-themed styling cues.

Both Elite and Black Edition trims come standard with ambient LED interior lighting; blue light is used in the Elite and red in the Black Edition.

Cargo Room and Flexibility

2022 Honda Pilot Elite

The Honda Pilot offers plenty of cargo room and flexibility, as you’d expect from a family-oriented midsize 3-row SUV. Behind the third row, there’s 16.5 cubic feet of cargo room. Fold down the second and third rows, and you’ll find 109.2 cubic feet.

A choice of seven or eight seats lets buyers customize the interior to their use case, and the 60/40 split-folding third row makes it easy to carry a varying mix of people and cargo.
