Ford is rolling out two new special edition Mustangs for the 2022 model year. One has some history. The other reflects current automotive trends. Ford hasn’t yet revealed pricing for the packages. Both will reach showrooms in the first quarter of 2022.
California Special
Ford offered a Mustang California Special as far back as 1968. For 2022, it’s an appearance package available on GT Premium fastback and convertible models. In keeping with tradition, the California Special features rear fender scoops just behind the doors. It adds a honeycomb grille, a large front splitter, and a black stripe low on the car’s sides, with “GT/CS” badging. Fastback buyers can add a rear wing.
It rides on unique, 19-inch, 5-spoke painted wheels.
Inside, California Specials feature black suede door inserts, suede-trimmed seats, and an instrument panel finished in carbon hex aluminum.
The California Special can be paired with a GT Performance Package that includes Brembo 6-piston front brake calipers, unique chassis tuning with heavy-duty front springs, stiffer bracing, a limited-slip differential, unique stability control, and electric power steering tuning.
Stealth Edition
The Stealth edition is an appearance package available on turbo 4-cylinder EcoBoost Mustangs. In keeping with a trend embraced by many automakers this year, it darkens many exterior elements of the car.
It adds 19-inch black-painted wheels, black emblems and mirror caps, and a trunk lid spoiler. The iconic horse badges that market the Mustang are also gloss black. Clear taillights like those found on the Ice White Edition change the rear view. Inside, the Stealth look brings unique black trim and sill plate lighting.
