The all-electric Chevrolet Bolt has been updated for 2022, and the biggest change is the addition of an SUV variant called the Bolt EUV. The slightly larger line extension starts at $33,000, just $2,000 more than the familiar hatchback version.

The Bolt EUV also benefits from the same interior improvements bestowed upon the freshened hatchback, from more comfortable seats to new features and technology. The 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV, with its 247-mile range, upgraded interior, and compelling price,  makes a strong case for going electric. Let’s take a peek inside.

Passenger Room and Comfort

The 5-passenger 2022 Chevrolet EUV looks larger than its hatchback counterpart because it is. The EUV is about six inches longer than the more familiar Bolt, and the primary practical benefit is about three more inches of legroom for rear-seat passengers. All other passenger and cargo dimensions are mostly similar between the two models.

Enhancing interior comfort is a new seat design that features additional padding and bolstering over the original Bolt. Heated and ventilated front seats are available. The rear bench is a 50/50 split fold-down design with a built-in center armrest.

Features and Tech

The Bolt EUV’s dash is a new design with an 8.0-inch color gauge cluster and a 10.2-inch touchscreen with a more intuitive interface. The infotainment comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, along with new apps that include Alexa, Spotify, and The Weather Channel.

Other standout standard features include wireless cell phone charging, automatic emergency braking, a high-def rear vision camera, lane keep assist, forward collision alert, automatic high beams, and front pedestrian braking. Available driver assists include a surround-view camera, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, and Super Cruise, a hands-free driver-assist.

Personal Storage

A new toggle switch to select park, drive and reverse frees up additional space in the center console. A covered bin that acts as a center armrest provides additional out-of-sight storage, as does the conventional glove box on the front passenger side. There’s additional space at the front of the console to hold a cell phone, and both the front and rear doors have storage bins behind the armrests.

Materials and Design

The redesigned interior features new display screens and innovative touches like the new toggle switchgear selector and more soft-touch materials for a premium look. The sporty flat-bottom steering wheel features a regen braking on-demand paddle and black Chevy bowtie logo.

The redesigned seats sport a triangular geometric pattern and contrasting color stitching. This execution further reinforces the upscale atmosphere of the cabin.

Cargo Room and Flexibility

The larger package on the EUV primarily benefiting the rear seat passengers is evident in the cargo-carrying capability. There are 16.3 cubic feet of load space behind the second row (the Bolt hatchback is 16.6 cubic feet). With the rear seatback folded down, that area grows to 56.9 cubic feet as opposed to the standard Bolt’s 57.0.

With the rear seats folded down, the load floor is nearly flat. There’s additional storage beneath that panel, which is removable to make the space more usable for larger objects. It also allows out-of-sight storage for smaller items when it’s in place.
