2021 Acura TLX Type S Goes on Sale

2021 acura tlx type sThe first Acura Type S performance-tuned vehicle in more than a decade reaches dealerships today. The 2021 Acura TLX Type S is a sportier version of the all-new TLX sedan. It starts at $52,300, plus a $1,025 destination fee.

The Type S is powered by a 355-horsepower V6 with a twin-scroll turbocharger. It sends power through what Acura is calling “a sport-tuned, quicker shifting 10-speed automatic transmission, which has been strengthened to handle the increased horsepower and torque of the new engine.”

But it’s Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system that gives the TLX Type S its dose of magic. Combined with speed-variable steering, our test driver found it gave the car “a satisfying urgency when steering.”

The TLX Type S is a bit less powerful than a base BMW M340i xDrive but costs thousands less.

While the TLX is the first vehicle to carry the Type S moniker since the 2008 model year, it won’t be the last. Acura unveiled an MDX Type S SUV carrying the same engine just last week.
