JLR, the company formerly known as Jaguar Land Rover, has recalled 11,961 Range Rover SUVs from model years 2022 and 2023 because their rearview cameras can fail.
The company tells federal safety officials at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that “on certain Range Rover vehicles, water could get into the rear-facing tailgate-mounted camera. This water ingress can cause a distorted image, or no image at all, to be displayed on the touchscreen.” The company believes the issue affects only one batch of cameras received from a supplier.
JLR hasn’t explained how it will fix the issue. The company says, “Remedial action is presently being developed and will be advised in due course.” We have seen automakers replace entire camera assemblies in this scenario, or replace just the water seals that protect them. Either approach could work.
When it comes, the solution will be free. By law, dealers never charge for recall repairs.
Automakers recall many cars, sometimes more than once. Manufacturers try to reach every owner to warn them. However, some may fall through the system’s cracks and are left unknowingly driving recalled cars. Check our easy recall tool to determine if your car has any outstanding recalls.
