Announced earlier this year, the 2021 Mini Cooper S Convertible Sidewalk Edition will arrive just in time for Spring. Pricing for the specially outfitted Mini Cooper convertible will start at $38,400, plus Mini’s $850 destination fee. The Sidewalk Edition brings its own unique looks inside and out, with special colors, unique trim, and a fabric convertible top with an unusual pattern. The model also includes a sizeable helping of otherwise optional equipment including leather, factory navigation, and more.

Mini fans with a good memory may recall that the brand once previously offered a Sidewalk Edition back in 2008. The trim was part of the last year for the first-generation Mini convertible. That earlier version differed in that it was offered on both the standard Cooper and the Cooper S. It also had a different design aesthetic than the new car.

Sidewalk Edition design elements

The Mini Cooper Sidewalk Edition comes in two colors: Deep Laguna (blue-green) Metallic or Enigmatic Black Metallic. Both come with an Anthracite (dark gray) convertible top sporting an unusual graphic pattern in lighter gray.

The Sidewalk Edition also is denoted by patterned bonnet stripes, and additional trim elements just behind the front wheels that repeat the Sidewalk graphics. The wheels are upgraded from Cooper S standard 16- to 17-inch Scissor Spoke units in two-tone bright silver and black.

No matter which exterior color is chosen, the Lounge leather seats in Anthracite are set off with blue-green piping and a patterned stripe down the center. There’s also blue-green trim on the door panels and dashboard. The Sport steering wheel is customized for the Sidewalk edition, the floor mats are edged with blue-green piping, and the Sidewalk edition gets unique interior ambient lighting.

Cooper S powertrain

The Sidewalk edition is exclusive to the Cooper S. As such, it’s powered by the S model’s turbocharged 2.0-liter I4 that makes 189 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque, enough to send the little convertible to 60 mph in 6.7 seconds. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard, but a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic can be had for $1,500 extra. Note that while the 2020 Cooper S convertible is automatic only, the stick shift returns to all Cooper S convertibles for 2021—not just the Sidewalk Edition.

Included optional equipment

The 2021 Mini Cooper S Sidewalk Edition adds the following features beyond what’s standard on the Cooper S convertible: LED headlights, LED fog lights and a head-up display. Also included are passive keyless entry, power-folding mirrors, auto-dimming mirrors, satellite radio, heated seats,  8.8-inch touchscreen with navigation, automatic climate control, and Mini’s Storage Package.

Pricing for the 2021 Mini Sidewalk Edition convertible starts at $38,400 or $39,900 with the automatic. Destination adds $850. For comparison, the 2020-model Cooper S convertible starts at $32,400 before destination, and that includes the automatic. The 2021 Sidewalk Edition reaches dealerships in April.
