The 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab competes in the full-size half-ton pickup segment against rivals like the Ford F-150, RAM 1500, Toyota Tundra, and Nissan Titan. It has many similarities to its sibling, the Chevrolet Silverado, with a few more upscale flourishes. When properly equipped, it can tow up to 11,800 pounds.
Two trim levels that help set it apart in a crowded field are the ultra-luxe Denali trim and the off-road capable AT4 all-wheel-drive package. The pair gives buyers a choice of trucks that are comfortable at the country club or out on back trails.
The MSRP for the GMC Sierra varies widely because of the number of options a buyer can choose from. Click on the Price it your way link to find the right Sierra for you.
Passenger Room and Comfort
The 5-passenger 2021 GMC Sierra offers a comfortable interior with class-leading front head- and legroom. The high seating position provides excellent visibility, while the spacious cab lets rear passengers stretch out. Engineers behind the GMC Sierra 1500 did their best to keep road noises at bay with the addition of extra sound absorbing material in the dashboard area, the carpet, and through the use of triple-sealed doors.
Other features include a leather-wrapped steering wheel, driver-centric controls, and plenty of soft-touch materials. Different trim levels feature a varying array of included and optional accessories inside.
Various Trim Levels
The base Sierra trim level is pretty basic. Start with a front bench seat to carry a total of six passengers. Step up to the SLE and your Sierra will be outfitted with heated driver and outboard front passenger seating, dual-zone climate control, and lockable under-seat storage in the first row.
The rear seats do double duty here when outfitted with available in seat-back storage bins that flip out so passengers can place valuables out of sight. The same goes for optional under-seat storage that can swallow a fair amount of sporting equipment, tools, or other items.
The mid-level Sierra SLT includes available leather-appointed front 10-way power-adjustable bucket seats. The front seats include standard heating and can be upgraded to ventilated seats if desired. Heated outboard seating is a second-row option. Finally, a standard 120-volt outlet is located on the instrument panel.
The Sierra AT4 includes a more athletic-appearing look. A leather interior is standard with 10-way power-adjustable seating with heating and ventilation.
The Sierra Denali includes a jet-black interior with Denali dark walnut/dark ash grey wood trim accents. Premium Forge perforated leather seating is used inside and includes Denali-embroidered headrests. Upgraded carpet floormats with available front/rear floor liners are available. Authentic open-pore wood trim and brushed aluminum accents are seen throughout.
Features and Tech
The GMC Sierra infotainment system includes a 7- or 8-inch touchscreen display with included Apple CarPlay/Android Auto/Amazon Alexa integration. Navigation and a Wi-Fi hotspot are optional.
Buyers can also select an available Qi wireless charging pad, or multiple USB ports featuring USB-A and USB-C connectors to stay charged up. An optional 7-speaker Bose Premium sound system with subwoofer is available on Elevation, SLT, and AT4 (it’s standard on the Sierra 1500 Denali).
The Sierra Denali includes other top-shelf features that are befitting its upscale position in the GMC lineup. They include a 15-inch multicolor head-up display that includes speed, tachometer, audio and phone info, navigation, and safety alerts. The available Rear Camera Mirror uses a camera working in real-time to provide a wide view behind the Sierra.
It seems the number of GMC Sierra configurations available is virtually unlimited. Based on the number of choices, it should be relatively easy to find a Sierra that fills a buyer’s needs.
MultiPro Tailgate
Part of the appeal of owning a pickup truck is the utility that the bed has to offer. GMC has taken that aspect further by offering the MultiPro Tailgate that provides a wide range of options to better utilize the load area. It’s essentially two tailgates in one. It starts with the larger more traditional gate and adds a smaller hinged panel within. With the larger gate down, that smaller element drops down to becomes a step or seat. It can also be raised with the larger gate down to provide a bed extender for longer objects. When the rear gate is up, it can flip down to provide a stand-up work area.
