2021 Ford Bronco Black Diamond: Features, Tires, and Options

2021 Ford Bronco 2D Black Diamond

The new Ford Bronco SUV promises to be one of the most highly anticipated vehicles arriving for the 2021 model year. Offered in both 2-door and 4-door format, thanks to its retro-inspired design and a long list of off-road hardware, the Bronco poses a serious challenge to established rivals, particularly the dirt-loving Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Wrangler Unlimited.

If off-roading is something that’s part of your normal driving routine, the Bronco Black Diamond could be the best Bronco for you. Of the seven available trims, the Black Diamond is one of several that target SUV shoppers who aren’t afraid to venture onto unpaved surfaces. Standard vinyl seats and an interior that you can hose out after a muddy day of adventuring are big parts of its appeal.

Here’s an up-close and extensive look at the standard and optional features offered on the 2021 Bronco Black Diamond.

Bronco Black Diamond Price and Details

The Bronco Black Diamond in 2-door format starts at $36,050, while the 4-door model stickers at $38,545. This places the Black Diamond trim about in the middle of all other Bronco models, from the no-frills Base model ($28,500) to the fully-loaded First Edition ($61,605).

Like every Bronco, the 4-door carries a slight price premium over the smaller 2-door variant. While they’re largely the same inside and out, one key difference is that the 4-door rides on a 116-inch wheelbase versus the 100-inch wheelbase that underpins the 2-door. This translates to more rear legroom in the 4-door, plus added cargo space behind the rear seats.

Black Diamond Dimensions

All in all, the 2021 Bronco Black Diamond 2-door model measures in at 174 inches long, 76 inches wide, and approximately 72 inches high. The 4-door Bronco stretches to a total length of 189 inches.

Engine

The Black Diamond comes standard with a turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder coupled to a 7-speed manual transmission. Four-wheel drive is standard, which means the available 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque is routed to all four wheels for go-anywhere grip.

An optional turbocharged 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 paired to a 10-speed automatic delivers a total of 310 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque.

Towing

No matter which body style or powertrain you choose, adding the Towing Capability package results in a maximum tow rating of 3,500 lbs. That is fine for an SUV this size, but it’s thousands less than the max towing capacity offered in compact and full-size pickup trucks.

Black Diamond Standard and Optional Features

The Ford Black Diamond is after SUV shoppers who want to venture off-road, but don’t need to scale towering boulders and thigh-deep muddy ravines on a regular basis. The available (and pricier) Badlands and Wildtrak trims cater to a more demanding all-terrain crowd.

Standard comfort, safety, and tech features on the Black Diamond include vinyl seats with rubberized flooring, upgraded bash plates to protect the underside of the truck, a heavy-duty front bumper, electronic-locking front and rear differential, front stabilizer bar disconnect, and 7-mode driver-selectable G.O.A.T (Goes Over Any Type of Terrain) system.

Similar to the base Bronco, the Black Diamond rides on surprisingly tough-looking steel wheels. Unlike the smaller 16-inch unpainted steel wheels on the bare-bones model, however, the ones fitted to the Black Diamond are 17-inches in diameter and painted gray.

Color Options

The Black Diamond is offered with 11 exterior colors, the most vivid being Cyber Orange, Velocity Blue, and Race Red. You can upgrade the black-vinyl seats to optional leather if the idea of a hose-out and drainable interior isn’t what you need in an SUV.

Fans of sun tanning, take note, the Bronco’s roof and doors are removable, much like what SUV buyers get with the current Jeep Wrangler. The choice of hardtop or soft top depends on how many doors you need on your Bronco. A 2-door Black Diamond has a choice of two removable hardtops, while you can fit the 4-door with either of the two available hardtops or an optional soft top.

Step inside and you’ll find an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa compatibility. Like the Bronco Black Diamond trim, which is one step above the base version, the Black Diamond cabin includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel, push-button start, and leather-wrapped gear knob.

The optional Mid Package includes everything from comfort touches like dual-zone climate control and heated front seats to added active safety items like blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, and rear cross-traffic alert.

Last but not least, the optional Sasquatch Package adds 17-inch black-painted and beadlock-capable alloy wheels, wider fender flares, higher-riding suspension, 4.7:1 final drive ratio, and 315/70R17 Mud-Terrain (35-inch diameter) tires.

It also includes Trail Control, which works as a one-pedal form of off-road driving. When the driver eases off the gas pedal, the system maintains the set speed and works like cruise control during all-terrain treks.
