Nissan’s all-new 2020 Versa went on sale today, fitted with a generous amount of modern safety equipment and totally revamped styling that has transformed it into a junior Altima of sorts. In other words, this compact 5-seat Nissan sedan is a now a handsome car, a far cry from the earlier Versa sedan that many considered dowdy.

But like that earlier Versa sedan, the all-new 2020 model is attractively priced.

Versa S

The 2020 Nissan Versa S, equipped with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, a 7-inch infotainment screen, a flat-bottom steering wheel and a 5-speed manual transmission, starts at $14,730. That same Versa S, with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and impressive EPA Highway fuel economy of 40 mpg, starts at $16,400.

Versa SV

Nissan says the Versa SV will be the high-volume model. Equipped with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto functionality and Nissan Safety Shield 360 (a safety suite that includes a blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert), the SV starts at $17,640. The SV wears 16-inch alloy wheels, while the S makes do with steel wheels wearing covers.

Versa SR

The SR tops the Versa lineup with equipment adding to that already found on the SV. This includes grippy seat fabric, a remote starter, a 6-speaker stereo (other Versa models have 4) and automatic climate control, plus LED headlights, a dark chrome grille, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and 17-inch alloy wheels. With a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $18,240, the new 2020 Nissan Versa SR looks to be a good value. All 2020 Nissan Versas – which are built in Aguascalientes, Mexico, alongside the Nissan Kicks crossover SUV – have a destination fee of $895.

Option pricing

If you want premium paint (Electric Blue Metallic, Monarch Orange Metallic, Scarlett Ember Tintcoat) on the new Versa SV or SR, it’s available as a $395 option. The other notable option on the 2020 Nissan Versa, available only on the SR, is a $300 Convenience Package that includes active cruise control and heated front seats.

While cars such as the 2019 Mitsubishi Mirage have a slightly lower price of entry, that doesn’t seem to concern Nissan. “It’s not our goal to be the cheapest car in America,” says Rob Warren, Nissan’s Chief Marketing Manager. “It’s our goal to be the best value.”
