Jaguar’s compact sports sedan, the XE, will receive significant updates for the 2020 model year including updated exterior details, a new interior and infotainment options. Base models will also have an enhanced roster of standard equipment when the 2020 XE arrives at dealerships this summer.
A major change is that the XE will be offered as a turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline-only model in the United States, shedding the supercharged gasoline V6 and turbocharged 4-cylinder diesel engines offered in 2019 models.
Trim Levels and Pricing
Standard equipment on the 2020 XE will include 18-inch wheels, power leather seats, premium LED headlights and taillights with updated signature graphics, front and rear park aid, rear camera, and lane-keeping assist. Three trim levels will be offered: S rear-drive starting at $39,900; S AWD priced at $41,900; and R-Dynamic S AWD with a sticker of $46,295.
Powertrains and Performance
The two S models, designated P250, will be equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder Ingenium gasoline engine tuned to produce 247 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. The R-Dynamic P300 model gets a higher-output variant of the 2.0-liter Ingenium, tuned to crank out 296 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Both engines use an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission.
Jaguar says that P250 models can scoot from 0 – 60 mph in 6.2 seconds, while P300 examples can make the run in 5.4 seconds. Top speed is 120 mph for all models. The EPA estimates P250 RWD fuel economy of 25 mpg city/34 mpg highway/28 mpg combined on premium. P250 AWD’s estimate is slightly lower at 24 mpg city/34 mpg highway/28 mpg combined. P300 AWD is rated at 22 mpg city/30 mpg highway/25 mpg combined.
Class of 2020: The New and Redesigned Cars, Trucks and SUVs
Exterior Design Changes
Design enhancements on the exterior were focused on giving the XE a more assertive appearance. A revised front bumper and a wider grille have been fitted. The new grille uses a new lattice mesh design with a fuller, curved profile shared with the Jaguar I-Pace. Slimmer all-LED headlights and signature daytime running lights, along with all-LED taillights emphasize the car’s sporty character. The rear also gets a new bumper and valance, which improves aerodynamic performance as well as appearance.
New Cabin
The new interior of the XE is crafted extensively with soft-touch materials, premium veneers, and an all-new door design. Improved storage, convenience, and passenger comfort were the focus of the redesign. The standard leather upholstery features details like twin needle stitching, new Jaguar seat labeling, and embossed headrests as standard.
The door trims feature redesigned, wider interior door handles that have made more space for large drink bottles in the lower door storage areas. Heated rear seats are available as a stand-alone option for $500.
Technology and Infotainment Packages
A 10-inch Touch Pro display is standard. Standard driver assistance features include Emergency Braking, a rear camera, Lane Keep Assist, Driver Condition Monitor, Cruise Control and Speed Limiter, and Front and Rear Parking Aid.
A Park Pack ($600) adds 360-degree Parking Aid and Rear Traffic Monitor. Drive Pack ($1,700) adds Blind Spot Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, and High-Speed Emergency Braking. The Convenience Pack ($1,200) includes an electrically adjustable steering column and keyless entry. Technology Pack ($1,950) brings a ClearSight interior rear view camera mirror, wireless device charging, a head-up display, Touch Pro Duo with a 12-inch display, and an Interactive Driver Display. The Connected Navigation Pack ($1,365) adds Connected Navigation Pro and Traffic Sign Recognition with Adaptive Speed Limiter.
