- Iconic Ford GT gets power bump
- Titanium exhaust now standard
- Two new appearance packages added
- Production slated through 2022
- Priced from $500,000
For the 2020 model year, Ford has upgraded its iconic GT sports car with power upgrades and two new appearance packages. The 2020 Ford GT is currently in production with deliveries ongoing according to the company, and it plans to continue production of this high-power iconic 2-seater through 2022.
“Ford GT continues to be the pinnacle of Ford performance,” said Ed Krenz, Ford Performance chief program engineer. “GT is always the ultimate expression of Ford racing innovation, and as we know from the 1966 Le Mans through today, that means constantly raising our game for our customers as well as earning the checkered flag.”
More power, better cooling
The 2020 Ford GT boasts 660 horsepower from its 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, an increase in 13 horses over models produced from 2017-19. While torque figures remain unchanged at 550 lb-ft, that output is delivered over a wider torque band. The Ford GT is equipped with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission driving the rear wheels.
Ford improved the cooling on the GT by increasing the airflow by 50-percent through new buttress ducts. Larger intercoolers also help reduce the temperature of air delivering to the engine’s twin turbochargers.
In other changes, the optional Akrapovič titanium exhaust system on the 2020 Ford GT is now standard equipment. The setup saves nine pounds over the previous stock exhaust and delivers a deeper, more resonant exhaust note.
Two new packages offered
Looking to improve performance by reducing mass, the 2020 Ford GT Liquid Carbon package features carbon fiber wheels as standard equipment. Buyers can opt for titanium lug nuts, 6-point racing harness anchors, five interior options and five caliper colors as part of the package.
The Liquid Carbon models are devoid of a paint finish on the carbon fiber bodywork, with only a special clearcoat layer covering the unique weave of the surface. A variety of stripe options and painted mirror caps are also offered as part of the package.
Class of 2020: The New and Redesigned Cars, Trucks and SUVs
Ford has also updated the Gulf Racing Heritage Livery which now uses a black pinstripe to divide the unique orange and blue color scheme. The new look is a reference to the 1968-69 Le Mans-winning Ford GT40. For 2020 models, the number is changed from 2019’s 6 to 9 to reflect the second of the back-to-back winning GTs.
How much does the 2020 Ford GT cost?
Starting price for the 2020 Ford GT is $500,000, with prices moving upwards depending on options and appearance packages. The company is currently building and delivering 2020 Ford GTs.
