2020 Chrysler Pacifica AWD Launch Edition First Look

  • First all-wheel-drive (AWD) Chrysler minivan since 2004
  • AWD can send all power to the rear wheels
  • AWD automatically disconnects for improved mpg
  • Available only on the 2020 Pacifica Touring L model
  • Priced at $40,240

Funny how this worked: At the 2020 Chicago Auto Show, FCA unveiled the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica minivan. The big news: It would be available with an advanced all-wheel-drive (AWD) system to go along with its Stow ‘n Go seating, loads of new safety features, and the latest Uconnect 5 infotainment system.

Now, though, the company has introduced the 2020 Chrysler Pacifica Launch Edition. That’s the current minivan equipped with the upcoming new AWD system. This makes the 2020 Launch Edition the first AWD Chrysler minivan since 2004. Its nifty new power-delivery system can disconnect drive to the rear wheels for enhanced fuel economy and send as much as 100 percent of the power to the wheels getting the best traction.

Stability in slippery conditions is enhanced by a traction control system that automatically applies the brakes to a spinning wheel, which through normal differential action directs power to the other side of the Pacifica to the wheel with traction. The tires, by the way, are self-sealing Michelin Premiers, size 235/60R-18.

“Reaction was overwhelmingly positive when we announced that the new 2021 Chrysler Pacifica will offer AWD capability,” explained FCA North America boss Tim Kuniskis. “We know there is demand for AWD capability along with Stow ‘n Go seating, and the 2020 Chrysler Pacifica AWD Launch Edition allows us to get our customers the all-weather capability they want even sooner.”

What makes the Pacifica Launch Edition different?

Besides the advanced AWD system and Stow ‘n Go 2nd-row seating, the Pacifica Launch Edition boasts black exterior accents on the grille and headlights, plus “Black Noise” badging and unique 18-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the S Appearance interior brings McKinley leather seats with light gray stitching, as well as the 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen radio.

How much does the 2020 Chrysler Pacifica Launch Edition cost?

The 2020 Chrysler Pacifica AWD Launch Edition, which rides about an inch higher than a standard Pacifica, has a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $40,240. That does not include a destination fee of $1,495, but it does factor in the AWD Launch Edition package MSRP of $3,095. Optional features and packages include navigation, a tri-pane panoramic sunroof, and a trailer tow package.
