The 2019 Toyota Yaris introduced at the New York Auto Show has a fresher face and a new name, as the iA designation (a holdover from its Scion roots) is dropped. The Mazda-built subcompact sedan will be offered in three trim levels, L, LE and XLE and boasts more creature comforts and safety systems over the previous model.
The new look includes a sportier front grille with a honeycomb insert and greater use of chrome and piano black accents on the exterior. Fog lights and a new rear lip spoiler are standard on LE and XLE models, power outside review mirrors are now standard on the L, while LE and XLE models have heated versions. The new range topping XLE trim features leatherette-trimmed front seats, leather-trimmed steering wheel, shift knob and parking brake, automatic climate control, automatic LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers and illuminated entry.

In addition to the freshened exterior, the Yaris interior has been upgraded to include a 7.0-inch touchscreen with voice recognition, steering wheel controls and Bluetooth connectivity on all models. A rearview camera, cruise control and push button start is standard equipment on all models. Every Yaris has power windows with driver-side auto up/down as well as a 60/40-split rear seat to expand carrying capacity.
High mileage
The Yaris is powered by a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that makes 105 horsepower and is tuned to deliver maximum efficiency. It is offered with a standard 6-speed manual or optional 6-speed automatic. When paired with the latter, the car delivers 32 mpg city, 40 mpg highway for a combined rating of 35 mpg. The manual is rated at 30 city/39 highway/34 combined.

All 2019 Toyota Yaris models come with Toyota’s Active Safety and Low-Speed Pre-Collision Systems. The former includes stability and traction control, brake assist, electronic brake-force distribution, antilock brakes and brake override system. The latter includes a collision warning and automatic emergency braking.
