Land Rover added another engine option for the 2019 Range Rover Sport: a 3.0-liter inline-6 mild hybrid. The new engine, part of Land Rover’s Ingenium line of diesel and premium engines, replaces the outgoing gas V6 engine, and is said to improve response. The new engine will be available in two forms, a 355-horsepower version (code named P360) in the SE and HSE models and a 395-horsepower version (P400) in the HST model.
The new engine uses an electric supercharger, a twin-scroll turbocharger, and continuous variable valve lift. These components work together for quick throttle response, increased power, and improved efficiency. The mild hybrid system uses energy from regenerative braking, which is stored in a 48-volt battery for later use. The system smooths out the stop/start system and adds a power boost when starting from a stop.
The HST-only 395-horsepower version of the engine has 406 lb-ft of torque, and sends the Range Rover Sport from 0 to 60 mph in 6.2 seconds, and gives the Range Rover Sport a top speed of 140 mph. The HST comes with unique badging, plus the option of carbon fiber trim on the hood and side vents, grille, and cargo door. The HST comes with red brake calipers, while gray anodized units are optional. The HST interior adds HST-specific styling cues.

The new engine is currently available, and pricing starts at $68,500 for the SE with the P360; $73,990 for the HSE with the P360; and $82,950 for the HST with the P400. Land Rover says that the engine will make its debut in the 2019 Range Rover Sport, which strongly suggests this engine will be available in other vehicles as well.
