Ram is still building the last generation Ram 1500 as a 2019 model designated the Classic. To give the truck a bit of new life, Ram has unearthed the Warlock trim level treatment from the ‘70s. First seen in 1976, the Warlock offered (Dodge) Ram buyers affordable custom truck styling from the showroom as a ready-to-drive package. That idea appealed to young truck buyers then, and still appeals now.

"The Ram 1500 Classic Warlock is proof positive that value never goes out of style," said Reid Bigland, Head of Ram Brand, FCA. "With its sinister monochromatic exterior, award-winning interior and great price, this mean machine is certain to resonate positively with consumers."

Custom look

Up front, the new Warlock’s grille uses “RAM” lettering with a mustache-like design cue, and there are LED fog lights, as well as projector headlights. The truck receives a one-inch lift and heavy-duty rear shocks and has powder-coated front bumpers in the front and rear. There are also Warlock decals on the bed, black badges, 20-inch semi-gloss black aluminum wheels and black wheel flares. Rounding out the Warlock’s styling cues are tow hooks and LED taillights. The Warlock is available in 10 colors. Buyers can also opt for a Sport hood, black side steps, and a spray-in bedliner.

Inside, the 2019 Ram Classic 1500 Warlock comes with Diesel Gray cloth seating, ParkSense rear park assist, and the company’s Luxury Group package, with an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, 7-inch gauge display, power-folding side mirrors, LED bed lighting, an overhead console, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Interior options include heated seats (bench or bucket) and navigation that works through an 8.4-inch touchscreen for the Uconnect system.

Pricing, availability

The Warlock is offered with a V6 or V8 in rear- or 4-wheel-drive with a Quad Cab or Crew Cab. All models come with a 5-foot-7-inch bed. It goes on sale late in the first quarter of 2019, with pricing that starts at $35,345 plus $1,695 destination.

That’s a deal, but the redesigned 2019 Ram 1500 is a better truck.
