- Chevrolet Colorado RST expands street-themed motif
- Chevrolet Colorado Z71 Trail Runner bolsters off-road protection
- Special editions come in conjunction with 4-year anniversary of truck’s reintroduction
As more competition looms on the horizon, Chevrolet is bolstering its 2019 Colorado lineup with additional special editions. In honor of the fourth anniversary of the rebirth of its midsize pickup truck, Chevrolet today announced RST and Z71 Trail Runner versions of the Colorado. Word of the two models follows the previous announcement of the ultra-rugged 2019 Colorado ZR2 Bison.
Chevy says since its current-gen Colorado debuted in October 2014 as a 2015 model, the truck has sold more than 428,792 units.
“The success of Colorado helped reignite the midsize truck segment, which increased 27 percent from 2015 to 2017,” said Sandor Piszar, director of Marketing for Chevrolet Trucks. “It changed what customers expected from a midsize truck, brought new customers to Chevrolet and has inspired competitors to follow Chevy’s lead.”
Among those competitors are the Toyota Tacoma, Nissan Frontier, and another smaller truck that’s about to experience its own rebirth: the 2019 Ford Ranger. (GMC has its own twin of the Colorado in the GMC Canyon).

RST for the street, Z71 for the trail
The 2019 Chevrolet Colorado RST continues the street-themed focus of siblings like the Chevrolet Tahoe RST, Suburban RST and Silverado RST. Based on the nicely equipped Colorado LT trim, the RST version adds a black beltline and side moldings, monochromatic exterior, black tailgate bowtie and what the brand dubs a new “flow-through” grille with Chevrolet lettering stamped within. The 2019 Colorado RST will be the first of the truck models to offer 20-inch wheels, finished in low-gloss black
The new 2019 Chevrolet Colorado Z71 Trail Runner, meanwhile, is a more off-road-oriented truck. Based on the capable Colorado Z71, it adds the underbody protection from the rugged, 4-wheel-drive Colorado ZR2. The extra shielding includes stamped aluminum front and mid skid plates, rocker protection and Goodyear Duratrac tires.
Pricing on these two new Colorado variants will be released closer to their on-sale date early next year. Currently, the 2019 Chevrolet Colorado LT starts shy of $29,000, while a Colorado Z71 begins around $31,600.
