Chevy has announced EPA estimated fuel economy ratings for its new 2.7-liter turbo 4-cylinder 2019 Chevrolet Silverado half-ton pickup with a 20-mpg city/23-mpg highway and 21-mpg combined for rear-drive versions. Rated 310 horsepower and 348 lb-ft of torque, the new engine in the 2019 Silverado is 13 percent more efficient, offers 14 percent more torque and is a second quicker to 60 mph than the base 4.3-liter V6 offered in last year’s truck. It also helps that the new Silverado is 380 pounds lighter.
Models equipped 4×4 drive earn 1 mpg mile less across the board at 19 city/22 highway/20 combined. The 2019 Silverado equipped with a 5.3-liter V8 is rated at 19 city/22 highway/20 combined.
“The new Silverado 2.7L Turbo delivers impressive performance and fuel efficiency,” said Tim Asoklis, Silverado chief engineer. “It’s fun to drive every day — quick from the start, and pulling hard under acceleration. With up to 23 mpg on the highway, the truck is efficient while still offering plenty of capability to tackle weekend projects and trips to the lake.”
Available on LT and RST trims
The all-new 4-cylinder powerplant is the base engine on LT and RST trims and is rated 1 mpg higher in city fuel economy than the base Ford F-150 XLT, while it matches that of the Ram 1500 3.6-liter V6 mild hybrid. Both those trucks earned higher 25 mpg highway numbers to give them a 1 mpg advantage with a 22 mpg combined rating.

Developed specifically for use in trucks, the 2.7-liter four can accelerate to 60 mph in 6.8 seconds while still delivering a maximum towing capacity of 7,200 pounds. The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado pricing starts at $38,395 for a double cab with a standard bed while the RST is priced at $40,295, including delivery.
