  • New roadster shown at Pebble Beach
  • Developed in concept with Toyota Supra
  • 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine
  • 0-60 mph acceleration of 4.4 seconds

BMW took the wraps off its much-anticipated Z4 Roadster ahead of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Shown as the 2019 BMW Z4 M40i Roadster First Edition, the new convertible was jointly developed with Toyota, which will show its variant, the 2019 Toyota Supra Coupe later this year.

The Z4 features vertically stacked headlamps flanking the traditional BMW twin kidney grille and has a long clamshell hood covering its 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine. The powertrain can accelerate the rear-drive convertible from 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds. Among the features on the M40i variant is the M Sport tuned suspension with electronically controlled shocks, upgraded brakes and an electronically controlled rear differential.

First edition flair

The BMW Z4 will be available in a limited First Edition trim shown at Pebble. Wearing a Frozen Orange paint treatment, the Z4 First Edition has an electrically powered cloth top in anthracite with a silver sheen, black exterior mirror caps and 19-inch alloy wheels in a unique two-tone double spoke design. The interior sports Vernasca black leather trim with contrast stitching, power adjusted seats and a premium Harmon Kardon sound system.

Other new features introduced on the First Edition include a head-up display, BMW Live Cockpit Professional with two high resolution digital displays and adaptive LED headlights. Full specs and model details will be announced Sept. 18, with the first 2019 BMW Z4 30i models arriving in spring, and the M40i versions arriving later in the second quarter.
