Adding some new tweaks, the 2018 Ford Mustang GT equipped with the Performance Pack Level 2 is designed to fill a gap between the base Performance Pack and the high output GT350. Models equipped with the more aggressive Level 2 treatment are distinguished by a lower, more aggressive stance, a high-performance front splitter and rear spoiler, all designed to boost the car’s downforce. Rounding out the upgrades are Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, returned steering and a MagneRide adaptive suspension.
The Performance Pack Level 2 was developed by engineers working in part on their own time to develop the upgrades. “A passion to create something special is what really drove this project,” said Tom Barnes, Mustang vehicle engineering manager. “And that really showed in the off-the-clock way we went about doing our work.”

Sharper handling
The aerodynamic body parts and the unique 19-inch wheels that provide better steering and handling response were among the items developed by the team in their spare time. The basic setup of the Performance Pack Level 1, which is priced at $4,000, includes unique chassis and tuning of the Brembo brakes, a specific stability control and electric power-assist steering setup, a Torsen rear differential with 3.73 axle ratio and a silver-painted strut tower brace. Level 2 now includes a half-inch lower ride height, 305/30/R19 Michelin tires mounted on special 19-inch wheels that are 10.5 inches up front and 11.0 inches in the rear. Those wheels are 1.5 inches wider than those found on Level 1 and provide more grip. All Level 2 cars are equipped with a manual transmission.
Other upgrades include specific tuning of the MagneRide dampers, quicker steering, a stiffer front and rear stabilizer bars and stiffer springs all the way around. The Level 2 cars sport black detailing on the splitter and spoiler and the 10-spoke Dark Tarnish wheels. Buyers can opt for Recaro sport seats in leather or cloth.
The Performance Pack Level 2 option is priced at $6,500 and Ford has opened the order books for deliveries beginning next spring.
