Two key players in Subaru’s U.S. lineup will get new trims year in the form of 2017 Legacy Sport and the Outback Touring variants. Each introduces unique cosmetic touches as well as available High Beam Assist and Reverse Auto Braking functions, two new features that also will be offered across the entire Legacy and Outback families.
2017 Subaru Legacy Sport
The new Legacy Sport model pumps its curb appeal with a dark gray grille insert, fog lamps in gloss black housings, silver-finish side-view mirrors with directional signals, chrome-accented rocker sills and new 18-inch Sport-spec alloy wheels. Inside, this new Legacy features a gray/black cloth interior set off with blue stitching, carbon fiber dash and door trim and Piano Black accents.

Rounding out the mix is a Starlink Multimedia Plus infotainment package with a 7.0-inch touchscreen. High Beam Assist along with Reverse Automatic Braking that uses four ultrasonic sonar sensors in the rear bumper to detect and automatically prevent low-speed collisions are available as part of Subaru’s EyeSight Driver Assist Technology. That package already includes Blind Spot Detection and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. All 2017 Legacy Sport models will be powered by the 175-horsepower/2.5-liter flat-four engine paired with a Lineartronic CVT transmission and the automaker’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system.
2017 Subaru Outback Touring
Positioned as Subaru’s new flagship model, the new Outback Touring boasts a similar kind of upgrading—although here buyers can opt to fit it with the 175-horsepower/2.5-liter boxer four or more potent 256-horse/3.6-liter flat-six engines. Beyond offering new-and-exclusive Brilliant Brown paint, exterior tweaks here include a dark gray grille, silver finished/low-profile roof rails, unique lower sill cladding, machine-faced 18-inch alloys with dark gray accents and chrome Outback badging.

Highlighting the Outback Touring’s cabin remix is new Java Brown perforated leather upholstery with ivory stitching as well as unique woodgrain trim and Piano Black accents. In addition to a heated steering wheel, the Outback Touring also comes with 7.0-inch Starlink Multimedia Navigation system that includes three years of map updates and a subscription to SiriusXM Traffic/Travel/Radio along with the Starlink Safety Plus services. Like the Legacy Sport, it will offer High Beam Assist and Reverse Auto Braking as part of the optional EyeSight package. Both the 2017 Subaru Legacy Sport and the 2017 Subaru Outback Touring roll into showrooms here this summer. Pricing for the Legacy Sport will start at $26,815 while the new Outback Touring is set to open at $36,870. Subaru also announced full pricing for both lines. The 2017 Legacy family will start at $22,815 for a 2.5i and run to $32,460 for a 3.6R Limited while the Outback lineup commences at $26,520 for a 2.5i model and rises to $39,970 for a top-line 3.6R Touring variant.
