Mazda is rolling out upgrades on the Mazda6 and calling it a 2017.5 model while holding prices in line with current models of the midsize sedan. Technically, it is still a 2017 since the 2018 Mazda6 won’t be introduced until later. The changes include more premium available features on the Touring trim and more standard safety features on the entry Sport model. The 2017.5 Mazda6 sedans arrive in showrooms this month.
The tweaks arrive to compete with the completely redesigned 2018 Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. These enhancements will likely help the Mazda6 better compete in its class as consumers increasingly expect cars equipped with active safety technologies.
New standard features
The base Mazda6 Sport adds standard Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert safety features. Mazda said it is adding the features as part of its commitment to boosting car and crossover safety.
The Mazda6 Touring–the sedan’s mid-level trim–adds standard navigation and heated front seats. Mazda also is making leather seats available as an option on the Touring trim as part of the 2017.5 additions. To get leather, buyers will have to add the Touring Premium Package which comes with a choice of black or Parchment-colored seats and an eight-way power driver position equipped with adjustable lumbar support; the 8-way seat replaces a 6-way power adjustable one and black imitation leather seats.

The 2017.5 Mazda6 Sport and Touring models come equipped with a SKYACTIV-G 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder engine that is mated to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. A 6-speed auto transmission comes standard in the Grand Touring models, the car’s top trim level.
Pricing
Sticker prices for the 2017.5 Mazda6 begin at $21,945 for a Sport manual; $22,995 for a Sport with automatic transmission; $24,195 for a manual Touring and $25,245 for the Touring trim with an automatic. Destination is $875 extra.
An available Touring package with BOSE, a moonroof and satellite runs $1,325 and the Touring Premium Package, including the leather seats, is an extra $1,425.
